About the Teacher
Hello! I'm Joseph Taylor, a passionate violinist and educator at Taylor Violin Studio. With a diverse musical background, extensive education, and professional performance experience, I'm dedicated to nurturing students' love for the violin and guiding them on their musical journey.
Background
My musical exploration began in middle school when I joined the band and started playing the clarinet. At age 12, I discovered the enchanting world of the violin and began studying privately with the esteemed violinist, Hilda Norton, for a remarkable nine years. This immersive experience provided me with a strong foundation and deep appreciation for the violin.
In college, I pursued a Bachelor's degree in music composition and theory from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. During my time there, I had the privilege of studying violin with the accomplished violinist, Emil Chudnovsky. Under his guidance, I further honed my technical skills and refined my musical interpretation.
In addition to my violin studies, I also dedicated myself to piano performance and composition, allowing me to explore music from multiple perspectives. My studies provided me with a comprehensive understanding of music theory, composition techniques, and the intricacies of different instruments, enhancing my overall musical expertise.
Teaching Philosophy
At Taylor Violin Studio, I believe that everyone can learn to play the violin and that a supportive and uplifting atmosphere is crucial for students to thrive. I strive to create a sense of community within my studio, where students feel inspired and encouraged to embrace their unique musical journey.
My teaching philosophy centers around breaking things down into manageable steps and helping students develop problem-solving skills. By focusing on foundational techniques and musical concepts, I empower my students to overcome challenges and progress with confidence. I believe in nurturing a well-rounded musician who can play in any style of music, emphasizing not only technical proficiency but also music theory, composition, and improvisation skills.
